Symptoms:
Symptoms
may vary from person to person.
- awkward body
movements
- rigidity/stiffness
- double vision
- weakness
in arms and legs
- slurring
of speech
- difficulty
swallowing
- spasticity
(continuous, uncontrollable muscle contractions)
- staggering
gait/walk (often mistaken for drunkenness)
- frequent
urination
- eyes have
"bulging" appearance
- involuntary
eye movements
- dystonia
(arms, legs, trunk, eyes and neck)
- exaggerated
reflexes
- muscle twitching
and numbness, tingling, cramps/pain in the hands, feet, and limbs.
There is evidence
of some impairment of emotional and executive
functioning. However, dementia
is not a symptom of SCA3. Therefore, such things as memory, concentration,
judgment, and general cognitive abilities are not impacted by the
disease.
